KANTHA of West Bengal

KANTHA is beautiful form of Traditional Embroidery from West-Bengal, India. Kantha Stitch is done with Running stitch and few stitches are added it to make it more attractive. Bright colour threads are used to do
beautiful folk motifs, floral designs, animal and bird figures, figurative designs, and geometrical shapes.
Originally Kantha was used to join layers of old saris to make Quilt.
Now it’s fashion to do Kantha embroidery on Sari, Stoles, ladies wear, bags-pouches, bread spread etc.

In 2018 I successfully taught 6 classes at Houston International Quilt Festival.

In 2017 I exhibited my Quilt titled Rainbow at Festival of Quilts – UK and received excellent comments.

In 2016 I taught Bengali Kantha and Warli Indian Tribal Painting at Chiba Citizens Gallery Inage – Japan. Exhibited Warli Indian Tribal Painting for 10 days at Chiba Citizens Gallery Inage – Japan.

In 2015 my 2 Quilts were selected to showcase in Houston International Quilt Festival, USA.
